Such is the battle for vision. It is undoubtedly impacted by the world in front of us, behind us, and around us. You’ve probably heard the idiom about whether a glass is half empty or half full. Time and time again, answers vary because it all depends on how you look at the glass and, even more importantly, how you think about it.

The verse that has always been the cloud by day for me is 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we live by faith, not by sight.” Or as the New Living Translation says, “For we live by believing and not by seeing.”

In short, faith must become our primary filter. We must see our lives through a prescription of our beliefs, not our problems. And as my belief grows, so too does my thinking.

So, how do we manage the way we think? Over my time of coaching and over conversations I’ve had with people from different generations and genders, classes and contexts, I’ve concluded that it often comes back to three filters. Filters we must keep pure and prepared: our eyes, our ears, and our heart, each of which affects the others.

However, awareness of these three intake valves can play a crucial role in managing moments of fear. Let’s briefly take a look at each to see how we can fortify our filters.
